The baby shower, that isn’t a baby shower…

The hubby and I decided more than a few months back that we didn’t want to have a baby shower.  What we did decide though, was that we wanted our family and friends to meet the new baby – complete with cake, laughs, and definately high on my list…beer.  (You have noooooo idea how badly I want to down a Keystone Light right now…)

I have had to tell soooo many people in the recent months, “No, we’re not having a baby shower…” and the reply I get before I’m even finished with my sentence is,

“No!  You HAVE to have a baby shower!”

Ugh.  Don’t make me explain.

For all of you that don’t know my stance on this, I will give you the short version of my long-winded opinion on the subject.

I think that baby showers, once you have already had a baby, are beyond tacky and extremely unclassy.  It is one thing if you are having your children 5+ years apart from each other.  But if you just had a baby two years ago, you might as well just tell your friends and family – “Get me gifts.  I want to open some presents.”  Because anyone in their right mind knows that you only need so many onesies, burp cloths and pack n’ plays.  If my best friend is having a baby shower three years after her first child (and I don’t care if it was a girl the first time around and now it’s going to be a boy) I am NOT GOING.

I guess the best way to put it into perspective is to put it this way…you’re not going to go to buy another wedding gift for the one person in your family that has gotten married six times are you?  No.  You’re going to tastefully say congrats with a card.  No gift.  No cash.  Nada.

Same thing with a baby shower.

SOOOOOOO….

Back to where I was going with this post in the first place!

The hubby and I are having a family/friend get-together a few weeks after the baby is born.  And me, realizing that I need to get my ass in gear, jumps into the invitations first.  🙂

The photos that follow are a small window into the nightmare that this project turned into.  Oh My GOSH.  This little girl better look back on this post and realize full well the effort I put into making these damn things.  And to think – I only made 10.  I still have another 20 to go!

Ahhh….A Day in The Life…

PS – Please don’t try and convince me to change my stance on the baby shower issue.  If you feel differently than I do – sweet.  That’s about all you’ll get out of me…
